The small village was nestled among the rolling green hills and lush rice paddies. Simple thatched roof huts lined the dusty dirt road that ran through the center of town. Chickens and ducks wandered freely, pecking at the ground searching for seeds and insects. Oxen pulled wooden carts piled high with hay down the road, their handlers guiding them along. The air was filled with the sounds of roosters crowing and farmers shouting to one another as they worked in the fields. Women in traditional wide-brimmed hats tended vegetable gardens beside their homes, picking fresh greens for the day’s meals. The pace of life moved slowly, in tune with the seasons and daily rhythms of farm work. While simple, the village sustained itself through the bounty of the land and the community bonds between its hardworking residents.
